Today, John Simonson over at Webstream Dynamics LLC launched a FREE iPhone App called theFlooring Calculator Lite.
According to the iTunes App Store:
"The Flooring Calculator works best for estimating the square footage needed for hardwood flooring and laminate flooring. The room dimensions must be in feet and inches, not metrics. It can also be used for carpet, but since carpet comes in 12 foot and 15 foot widths there are additional calculations that are needed for estimating the total square footage for rooms larger than the width of the carpet.
It is important that you break down each part of the room into separate rectangular areas. Closets, L-shaped rooms, hallways, etc. needed to be measured separately. That is why the flooring calculator allows for inputting several areas at a time.
The flooring calculator will give you an estimated overall cost for material with a 10% overage added in. Since most hardwood flooring and all laminate flooring are sold in full cartons only you will have to divide the total square footage by the square feet per carton and round up to the nearest integer value to know how many cartons you will need.
Total SQ.FT. / SQ.FT. per Carton = Number of Carton needed"
